Maine vacationers are invited to roll up their sleeves and learn to brew with professional brewers at the Kennebunkport Brewing Company (KBC), where the award-winning Shipyard Brewing Company first began at Federal Jack’s Restaurant and Brew Pub. This intimate three-day educational vacation will give guests the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a brewer, ask questions, and get hands-on in the brewing process. It’s the perfect fit for craft beer enthusiasts, people who want to learn more about techniques and ingredients to help improve their own home brewed beer, or be inspired to home brew for the first time.

Schedule:
Day 1: Arrive in Kennebunk for a special reception and dinner at Federal Jack’s

Day 2: 7:00am – 3:30pm Brew at Kennebunkport Brewing Company. Lunch will be served at Federal Jack’s. Guests are free to enjoy exploring the area in the evening.

Day 3: 10:30am Behind the scenes tour of Shipyard Brewing Company followed by lunch at Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland.

Please note that guest brewers must be 21 years of age.

Improv Asylum hosts Boston's first improv comedy beer festival


On Saturday, October 9th from 12pm to 6pm Improv Asylum will host Boston’s first improv and sketch comedy beer festival called LAFFENHAUS. For $40 (online in advance and $50 after October 7th.) beer drinkers and comedy lovers can come to the historic North End and combine two of the world’s greatest creations in one place. LAFFENHAUS will comprise of two 3-hour long sessions starting at 12pm and at 3pm. Guests who are 21+ will have a chance to taste beer from local brewers for the first hour and be given a comedic break produced and performed by the lightening quick actors of Improv Asylum during the second hour immediately followed by another hour of tasting. Among the local brewers participating are Sam Adams, Narragansett, Long Trail, and Shipyard Brewing Company.

Trail to Ale 10K


Portland Trails' Trail to Ale 10K was a great success! Nearly 1,500 runners turned out to race and raise money for this incredible organization.

The Shipyard Brewing Company crew was on hand serving refreshments to the runners and Portland Pie donated pizza for the event.

5th Annual Hike the River kicks off Pumpkinhead Festival

5th Annual Hike the River will benefit Maine Cancer Foundation as part of Pumpkinhead Festival weekend at the Phoenix House & Well

NEWRY, MAINE (September 1, 2010) – The Phoenix House & Well, Sunday River, and Shipyard Brewing Company have partnered together to sponsor the 5th Annual Hike the River. This two mile hike will be held Saturday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. and 100% of funds raised will go to the Maine Cancer Foundation in support of breast cancer research, education, and patient support programs in Maine.

The hike will begin at the Phoenix House & Well on Skiway Rd. in Newry and travel up some of Sunday River’s most beautiful trails. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. and the entry fee is $25. A brunch featuring eggs Benedict, stuffed French toast and more will be offered free to hike participants starting at 9:00 a.m. The registration form can be downloaded at this link.

Hike the River is part of Pumpkinhead Festival weekend at the Phoenix. Weekend entertainment will include:

A performance by comedienne Karen Morgan on Friday, October 29 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 with a special rate of $10 for registered hike participants.

Maine’s favorite cover band, Monsta, will rock the Phoenix on Saturday, October 30 at 9:00 p.m. and there will be prizes for the best Halloween costume. Tickets are $10 and this event is free for hike participants. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Maine Cancer Foundation.
