Mainers enjoy a little self-improvement in their pastimes, like spending time at a brew pub. Fortunately, the state's thriving brew pubs and their local beers are worth devoted studies.

It's fun to learn about beer.

Terms like cask-conditioned, Ringwood yeast and specific gravity come up in conversation with brewers quickly enough. The cask-conditioned beers known as real ales are naturally fermented and pumped by hand from the cellar into the glass at the bar.

DRAFT Online: Shipyard Brewing Co's Summer Ale

Shipyard Brewing promotes Maine lobster on summer label
The beach, brew, and lobster: the essential elements of summer in Maine. Each one is incorporated on the whimsical new label of Shipyard Brewing’s Summer Ale. The Portland brewery enlisted the work of local Maine artist Ken Hendricksen to develop the iconic image that they think could come to represent the state and summer. “It depicts Maine at its peak with a genuine Maine ‘lobstah’ sitting on the beach,” Fred Forsley, president and co-owner of Shipyard, said

The brewery hopes the label helps bring greater attention to the struggling industry. “We definitely felt Maine lobstermen needed the exposure and are happy to play our part in promoting Maine lobster through this packaging,” Forsley said.

This endearing tribute to summers in Maine is sure to make you giggle and your mouth start to water.

Taste How Good Being Green Can Be

Read Deborah McDermott's Portsmouth Herald article at this link.

Today, on behalf of Efficiency Maine, John Brautigam presented Fred Forsley with a recognition award for all the green technologies at the Shipyard Brew Pub and Regatta Banquet & Conference Center in Eliot, Maine.

A roof top solar system is the backbone of an energy efficient system that includes features such as: heated sidewalks; interior, exterior, and parking lot lighting; low energy, high efficiency kitchen motors; recaptured heat from refrigeration motors; preheated water; and cooking systems that utilize steam generated by natural gas.

This award recognizes the commitment to energy efficient practices Shipyard Brewing Company has demonstrated. Maine's director of tourism, Pat Eltman, was also on hand to talk about the importance of green businesses to Maine's tourism industry. Click HERE for photos from the event and tour of the facility.

The Shipyard Brew Pub and Regatta Banquet & Conference Center are both located in Eliot Commons on Route 236 in Eliot, Maine. Just 1 hour north of Boston or 1 hour south of Portland. Look for the brew pub on the new Maine Beer Trail.

Capt'n Eli's Soda at Chicago Dogs

When Chicago Dogs opened its newest location next to The Pier in Old Orchard Beach, Maine the owner wanted something special for their customers -- something that would really make the location stand out. They decided to feature Maine-made Capt'n Eli's Soda as their featured soda brand to give customers a true taste of Maine.

They serve four flavors fresh from the tap: Capt'n Eli's Root Beer, Capt'n Eli Strawberry Pop, Capt'n Eli's Lemon Lime, and Capt'n Eli's Blueberry Pop.

Capt'n Eli's Soda is handcrafted by Shipyard Brewing Company in Portland, Maine. This old fashioned soda is made with pure cane sugar and contains no caffeine. When you travel to Maine this summer, think Old Orchard Beach, Chicago Dogs, and Capt'n Eli's Soda. Check out more photos HERE.

"The Chamberlain Pale Ale is a good beer. It pours smooth. Light carbonation produces little head. The Pale Ale is copper in color and has a citrus, almost lemony aroma. This slightly hopped ale goes down easy...." ~ Craig P. Dixon, SouthCoast247
