Read press release HERE.

Shipyard Brewing Company announces the release of a new beer in its Pugsley’s Signature Series line. XXXX IPA is a “big beer” with 9.25% alcohol by volume. This beer draws its name from the British brewing convention of using X’s to denote strength. Look for it on shelves and on draft by May 15. Available at the Shipyard Gift Shop (86 Newbury St., Portland, Maine) now!

Pugsley’s Signature Series is named after Shipyard’s master brewer, Alan Pugsley. Pugsley is from England where he worked with Peter Austin at the world-famous Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire before moving to the United States in 1986.

XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade Hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. The OG and final Alc./Vol. provide the structure and body to balance the harmony of distinct flavors. Cascade, Warrior, Summit and Glacier Hops are used for bittering and Cascade Hops are added for dry hopping after fermentation. This hop blend is well balanced with Malted Wheat, Pale Ale, Crystal, and Caramalt Malts. 70 BU’s, 1.092 OG, 9.25% Alc./Vol.

Beer Bomb Bus Tour: Shipyard Brewing Company in Orlando, Florida

Orlando Sentinel -- Dreams do come true: A beer bus ride by Kelly Fitzpatrick -- April 10, 2009. Read the full article HERE.
Living in Central Florida, we're all used to the attractions and excursions offered to the tourists constantly coming in. But recently I went on a bus tour definitely appreciated best by locals — although it may take you a day or two to recover.

The "Beer Bomb Bus Tour" takes nearly 20 folks to experience different bars around Central Florida that really take pride in their beer selection, and have the chops to educate you on the beer as you sip it. For $45, the "Shipyard Bus" takes its passengers to four bars to sample four beers, and bar staffers educate you on each brew. In between, the bus is stocked with three different kegs of Shipyard you can imbibe while singing "99 Bottles of Beer" between stops.

The bus tour is brought to us by Mike Smith of Shipyard Brewing Company, a master at grass-roots marketing around town for a brewery based in Portland, Maine. He acquired the bus in 2007 and started the tours shortly after to "combine great beers, great people discussing great beers and traveling to some of the best beer bars in Central Florida." I'm sure the Shipyard products painted all over the bus isn't a bad advertisement, either, but that isn't all that you're sampling. This is seriously one good time.

Get on the bus
In total the trip lasts roughly six hours and is a great time. Between bars, Smith had us guess the total mileage for the trip and played the movie Caddyshack (love that Baby Ruth scene). Smith is planning another bus trip in early fall, but he also holds other events including the Beer Bomb Bike Tour and Beer Dinners I've written about. To find out about the next one, go to www.myspace.com/beerbombofthemonth.

BlueGreen: Sea Dog sponsored surf film tours the West Coast

Sea Dog Brewing Company is a proud sponsor of the West Coast tour of the award winning documentary film BlueGreen. Read the press release HERE. West Coast tour starts today!

BlueGreen is a film exploring the human connection to the ocean through a surf-centric lens. The film features professional surfers Keith Malloy, Layne Beachley, Robert August, Liz Clark and more, as it explores our ties to the big BlueGreen. But as much as the film looks for these ties through the eyes of watermen across the country, it ends up bringing it all back home to the Gulf of Maine.

If you are on the West Coast in any one of these cities, come out to see the film! East Coast tour is being planned now. Partial proceeds from each film will benefit the Surfrider Foundation and we will be raffling off a brand new surfboard to help aid with their campaigns. If you can't make the showings, the Shipyard Store is offering the DVD/CD in an eco-friendly digi-pack set for $20. Buy it HERE.
